NeuGen Director Appointed to Governor’s Task Force on Reducing Prescription Drug Prices
Alan Lukazewski Brings Clinical Experience as well as Passion and Purpose to the Statewide Task Force
MADISON, WI– The Director of Clinical Pharmacy for NeuGen, Alan Lukazewski, RPh, CDE, CGP, was appointed to serve on Governor Tony Evers’ Task Force on Reducing Prescription Drug Prices. Lukazewski provides pharmacy expertise and guidance for both of the health insurance plans in which the Shared Service Organization, NeuGen, provides services for—WEA Trust and Health Tradition Health Plan.
The Task Force, announced in October, is charged with making recommendations to help address one of the nation’s most persistent problems: rising drug prices. Comprised of 21 members from multiple industries with diverse experiences, the Task Force combines knowledge and practice from the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, Medicaid, pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers, health insurance companies, physicians and medical centers.
The first meeting was held in November, with additional meetings planned each month until the summer. The Task Force will likely review recommendations in August or September 2020.
“We need full transparency and a better understanding of what is driving higher drug prices,” states Lukazewski as he reflects on his appointment to the task force. “Today, our warped incentives are driving higher costs, which puts an unjust financial burden on those with high deductibles or those who lack health insurance coverage. This ends up hurting an overwhelming number of people and falls far short of our goals to make healthcare affordable and improve lives.”
As the task force meets, they will focus on gathering and analyzing data on the creation, pricing, distribution and purchasing of prescription drugs. Members will also look to other states and programs that have been effective in reducing drug cost.
Prior to joining the organization in 2015, Lukazewski worked as the Director of Pharmacy Services for a Continuing Care Retirement Community, a long-term care consultant as well as a retail Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager.
Founded in November 2018, NeuGen is a Shared Services organization based out of Madison, Wisconsin. In 1970, the not-for-profit WEA Trust was founded by the Wisconsin Education Association Council. In 2018, WEA Trust acquired another Wisconsin-based health plan, Health Tradition, in order to serve both public and private employees in the state. Today, NeuGen supports both health insurance companies in addition to providing medical management and administrative services to other healthcare companies.
